The Science of Early Learning Award Luncheon
was created in 2004 to recognize leaders in early childhood advocacy
and education. Each year the luncheon provides a unique opportunity
for business, community, government and academic leaders to join
with childcare providers and other interested parties to hear the
latest on early brain development and to recognize a community leader
for his or her leadership in early childhood education and advocacy.
Proceeds from the luncheon benefit New Directions Institute’s training and advocacy work in the science of early brain development.

The Sixth Annual Science of Early Learning Award Luncheon, held May 7, 2009, at the Arizona Biltmore was a great success. The New Directions Institute for Infant Brain Development (NDI) honored Donald Diamond and Helaine Levy of the Diamond Foundation with the 2009 Science of Early Learning Award. The event was chaired by Arizona's Children Association board member Pamela Barbey. Emcee for the event was Greg Stanton, deputy attorney general for legislation, policy and strategic planning. Speakers at the luncheon were Rick Sodja, chief executive officer, Children's Learning Adventure, GladysAnn Wells, director, Arizona State Library Archives & Public Records, Deborah Gilpin, president and CEO, Children's Museum of Phoenix and Sharon Pierce, president and CEO, the Villages of Indiana. Thank you to our many luncheon sponsors and attendees.
